1st I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Thankful Hendry all my land on White Oak and west side of Rattlesnake Branch with the use of my Grist and Saw Mills Team of Horses and Oxen until my son Alexander becomes of age at which time I appoint for her the South End of my Plantation including all my buildings and one third of the proceeds arising from my Mills during her life Time. The above land and Mills to be equally between my son Charles and Alexander Hendry share and share alike also the Team of Horses & Oxen.

2nd I give and bequeath unto my son Robt. Hendry a certain piece of land formerly occupied by said Robert in Bladen County which I value at Nine Hundred dollars.

3rd I give and bequeath to my son Wm. Hendry Nine Hundred dollars which I have already given him.

4th I give and bequeath to my son John Hendry Six Hundred Acres of land situated on Keith Branch of Long Creek conveyed by deed from Major Joseph Lamb to me. Also Five Hundred dollars to be made by my Mills and given him; also so long as he sees cause to stay and manage my mills, he will be entitled to a Sixth part of the profits arising from them.

5th I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catharine for the heirs of her body a certain piece of land conveyed by deed from Levenson Gerganns to me, valued at Three Hundred and Fifty dollars.

6th I give and bequeath unto John Bordeaux heir of my daughter Elizabeth Forty Shillings.

7th I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary A Negro girl named Milly.

8th I give and bequeath to my daughter Thankful a Negro girl named Maggy and one named Zilpha.

9th I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Jane a Negro girl named Abby.

In addition to what I gave unto my son John I give him a Negro boy named Jack.

Also I give unto my son Charles a Negro boy named Tobe.

Also I give unto my son Alexander a Negro boy named Levi.

Also in addition to what I gave my beloved wife Thankful I give unto her during her lifetime the following named Negroes. Harry, C____ Peggy and Jean and until my son Alexander comes of age I leave her also Sampson and Benjamin Selena Rhoda and Abraham at which time they are to divided equally among my sons Robt. Hendry, Wm. Hendry and daughters Mary, Thankful and Hannah Jane.

In case that Hiram Tucker husband to my daughter Catharine shall will and Clearly Extricate my son Robert from any cost by being security for his appearance at Court he then and in that case enable his wife to have a distribution & have in the both mentioned if he on the other hand should fail to do so my Son Robert to have the share that Catharine would otherwise be drawn for the heirs of her body and that independent of her own distribution & have in the division. Those Negroes left to my wife during her lifetime and after her death to be equally divided between Robt. Henry my Son Wm. Henry my Son My daughters Mary, Thankful and Hannah Jane.

The condition Just before mentioned concerning Hiram Tucker and my daughter Catharine if performed well enable her also in this division be able to have a distribution also for the heirs of her body.

If any of my heirs should lose their Negroes now given to them before those divisions are made they are to be made Equal to such loss before a division is made and then & have equal. I leave Four Hundred dollars to be equally divided among my heirs after my death.

Finally I constitute my beloved sons Robert and Wm. Hendry sole Executors to this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day July One Thousand Eight Hundred and Nineteen.

World Family Tree, Ancestors of Andrew Ferguson Johnson and others received from the Phipps family (over 20 years ago) shows William Cromartie & Ruhamah Doane as the parents of (Annie Cromartie and) Thankful Cromartie.

However, the records of Donna Johnson (bounty@charlotte.infi.net), which is a more complete and extensive record (sent in response to my response to a post on World Family Tree), gives the William Cromarite that is married to Ruhamah Doane as the son of William Cromartie of Scotland and as the sibling of Ann E. Cromartie and of Thankful Cromartie that is married to Alexander Hendry. Because this latter record is more complete with dates and many siblings, and because the dates pertaining to all the children of William Cromartie of Scotland are chronologically sequenced as one would expect, pending documentation otherwise, the records giving William as the sibling of Thankful and not her ancestor will be accepted as accurate.

These two Johnson records are clearly referring to the same people, despite the variances.

The Doane Family Association has done exhaustive research to determine the identity of Deacon John Done, researching everyone with that name who lived during that period who could potentially have been him. As evidence emerged a little at a time, all but one John Done (including alternate spellings) were ruled out, leaving only one. He was referred to in certain documents as John Done "cordwainer", and was born in Alvechurch, Worcestershire (pronounced Allchurch) on 28 May 1592. This conclusion was published by them in 2012. Nicholas arrived at Plymouth on the "Anne", from Hoxton in Middlesex, on July 31, 1623.

From WFT # 1209-
Nicholas Snow came to America on the "Ann" in 1623, and was made a freeman at Plymouth in 1633. He was named in 1634 to lay out highways at Plymouth, and he served there as arbitrator, surveyor of highways, and on juries. By 1645 he had sd at Eastham, where he served as clerk, selectman, deputy, constable, highway surveyor, excise collector, and on court committees.
"Mayflower families" states that the will of "Nicholas Snow of Eastham, dated 14 November 1676, and proved 5 March, 1676, left livestock and household goods to wife Contant (sic) for life use and then to son Jabez, and divided various parcf land to sons Mark, Joseph, Steven, John, and Jabez. The description of land near the testator's house mentioned "son Thomas Paine" (actually son-in-law) as an abutting owner.
Nicholas also gave, after the death of his wife, "the sum of ten shillings to the Church of Eastham for the furniture of the Table of the lord, with pewter or other Necessaries." He named deacon Samuel Freeman and John Mayo as executors. rs of administration were granted to Constant (sic), Mark, and John Snow on 6 March 1676. A lengthy inventory, including many cooper's and carpenter's tools, was sworn to by widow Constant on 22 March 1676.

Note by Doug Couch: The birth dates of alleged brothers, Nicholas Snow (born 1600) and Anthony Snow (born abt 1629), and said to be born by the same parents seems rather unlikely. My guess is that someone gathering genealogy information (from which I obtained this lineage connection information) made certain assumptions of relationship that do not exist, or had incorrect information about their various births or parentage through other spouses not named in this information.     The exact date of the death of Stephen Hopkins is unknown, but he must have died at Plymouth, in the year 1644, between June 6, the day his will was made, and July 17, the day his inventory was taken.
    
    The will and inventory were recorded in the Plymouth Colony Wills and Inventories, Volume 1, folios 61, 62 and 63.
    
    [61] The last Will and Testament of mr Stephen Hopkins exhibited Upon the Oathes of mr Willm Bradford and Captaine Miles Standish at the generall Court holden at Plymouth the xxth of August Anno dm 1644 as it followeth in these wordes vizt.

    Stephen Hopkins was baptized April 30, 1581, Upper Clatford, Hampshire, England, son of John and Elizabeth (Williams) Hopkins. Stephen married first, Mary (maiden name unknown), probably in Hampshire, England prior to 1604. They had three children, Elizabeth, Constance and Giles. Mary was buried in Hursley on May 9, 1613. Stephen's second wife was Elizabeth. She may have been Elizabeth Fisher, who married a Stephen Hopkins in London on February, 1617. Prior to their trip on the Mayflower, they had a daughter, Damaris. A son, Oceanus, was delivered in the middle of the ocean, in the cramped quarters of the small, rolling Mayflower, probably in October 1620. He died in 1627.
    Stephen and Elizabeth had five more children after settling in the colony: Caleb in 1623, Deborah in 1626, Demaris in 1628 (the first Damaris died before1627), Ruth in 1630 and Elizabeth in 1632. But only four of Stephen's children reached adulthood, married and had children of their own. These were Constance, Giles, Damaris and Deborah, each of whom had large families, which over future generations resulted in thousands of descendents of the original Stephen Hopkins.

    Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins may have been the same Stephen Hopkins who was on board the Sea Venture, which was shipwrecked in Bermuda in 1609. The Sea Venture was part of a fleet of 9 ships under the command of Sir George Somers and Sir William Gates. Scattered by a hurricane, some of the ships made their way to Jamestown. The Sea Venture, however, was wrecked off Bermuda. The Stephen Hopkins of the Sea Venture (and possibly the Mayflower) was a minister's clerk who fomented a mutiny on the grounds that the authority of the governor ceased when the ship was wrecked. This Stephen Hopkins was sentenced to death, but pardoned, with reference made to his [unnamed] wife and children. This Stephen Hopkins spent a further two years in the English colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia.
    Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower had two wives. The name of his first wife is unknown. His second wife was named Elizabeth Fisher, she and Stephen were married in London in 1618. Elizabeth died in Plymouth in 1639. Stephen Hopkins had two children by his first wife, and 7 by his second.
    Elizabeth Hopkins accompanied her husband Stephen on the Mayflower. With them were Stephen's two children by his first marriage (Giles and Constanta), and Elizabeth and Stephen's daughter Damaris. Their son, Oceanus, was born while the Mayflower was at sea.
    Stephen Hopkins had positions of responsibility in the Colony. Hopkins and Edward Winslow were chosen to approach Massasoit and Hopkins repeated this duty as emissary. He nevertheless ran afoul of the law several times, for assault, for not properly regulating other people's alcohol intake, and for overpricing.
    Stephen Hopkins died between 6 June 1644, when his will was made, and 17 July 1644, when the inventory of his estate was taken.

    Stephen 1578 was the 14th signer of the Mayflower Compact.
    
    He left for America the first time on the Sea Venture, and was shipwrecked on the "Isle of the Devils" reef, near Bermuda, due to a hurricane in 1609, arriving later on May 24, 1610, on one of the two ships (Deliverance & Patience)built partially from parts of the wrecked ship.

Died presumably between the date of his Will, June 6, 1644, and taking of inventory relative to his will, July 17, 1644.
