  1. 192.  Richard HIGGINS was born on 1 Aug 1603 in England (son of Edward HIGGINS and Julian MEALS); died on 21 Jun 1675 in Piscataway, Middlesex Co, NJ.

    Notes:

Sons Johnathan and Benjamin were by first wife, Lydia Chandler. It is said Richard had 10 children by his second wife, Mary Yates. Richard came to Plymouth in 1633.

    Doug Couch notes 2008:

In initial online records viewed, Robert Higgins was given as husband of Julian Meals, daughter of Christopher Meals and Elizabeth. While this relationship may exist at some point, more documented records show that this Julian Meals was married to Edward Higgins (given as Robert's father in the online records), with a quote from Julian's gravestone, verifying her marriage to Edward. Thus, the relationship has been unlinked from Robert and relinked to Edward.

Richard married Lydia CHANDLER on 23 Nov 1634 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA. Lydia (daughter of Edmund CHANDLER and Jane GITTON) was born in 1614 in Duxbury, Plymouth Co, MA; died in 1651 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA. [Group Sheet]

  2. 193.  Lydia CHANDLER was born in 1614 in Duxbury, Plymouth Co, MA (daughter of Edmund CHANDLER and Jane GITTON); died in 1651 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA.

    Notes:

Concerning the complex and controversial lineage of the family of Edmund Chandler, the current lineage given here for daughter Lydia wife of Richard Higgins appears to be correct per the Edmund Chandler Family Association.

In Edmund's will, Lydia's name is absent because she was deceased:
[Pope, p. 93]: Edmund Chandler/Chaundler, creditor of Godbert Godbertson, frm 1633; res. at D uxbury 1636-7; constable; appraiser of est. of Wm. Thomas. Will dated 3 May, prob. 4 June 1662, being old. Req. to children Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, Sarah, Ann, Mary and Ruth.

    Birth:
also given as born in 1613 & 1616

    Notes:

    Married:
From "Richard Higgins and His Descendants", by Mrs. Katharine Chapin Higgins, 1918:
Having now a good house and twenty aacres of land, and being a tailor with an apprentice, Richard Higgins bethought himself of a wife and his eye fell upon Lydia chandler, daughter of Edmund Chandler, of Duxbury and Scituate. She was favorable to his suit, and on December 11, 1634.*, they were married and went to housekeeping in the house bought of John Barnes....
*The date of marriage was Nov. 23, 1634, according to Eastham records.

    Children:
    1. Jonathan HIGGINS was born in Jul 1637 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co, MA; died in 1715 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA.
    2. 96. Benjamin HIGGINS was born in Jun 1640 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA; died on 14 Mar 1690/91 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA.

  3. 194.  Edward BANGS was born about 28 Oct 1591 in Panfield, Essex, England (son of John BANGS and Joan CHAVIS); died in Feb 1677 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA.

    Notes:

Kay Blair (historian for Doane Family Assoc) stated certainty Hannah Bangs' father was Edward, and that he came over on the Mayflower.

Some compiled reconstructions of the passenger list for the ship, Anne's passage in 1623, show Edward, his first wife, Lydia, and sons John and Jonathan as arriving on the Anne. Not all such lists show all the same passengers. While I know of no such record, it is not impossible that both passage on the Mayflower and passage on the Anne are true. There were some who made more than one passage between Europe and America in those early years.

Edward married Rebecca HOBART in 1635 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co, MA. Rebecca (daughter of Edmund HOBART and Margaret DEWEY) was born in 1611 in Hingham, Norfolk, England; died after 15 Oct 1651 in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA. [Group Sheet]
