As given in the notes attached to record for her mother (Isa. #2), this Isabelle Cowan, Jr. (Isa. #4) appears to be the daughter of (Isa. #2) and, by her Cowan last name, was either single at the death of her mother (Isa.#2) in 1836...or was married to someone who also had the Cowan last name.

The following note is an attempt to clarify the apparent relationships between 4 persons named Isabelle (also Isabel or Isabella). This note is offered as part of the record for Isabelle #2 below:

Will of Isabelle Johns (Isa. #1) 1793, gives a daughter, Isabelle Cowan (Isa. #2). As Isabelle Johns (Isa. #1) is the grandmother of Isaac Cowan Lamb's daughters (Isabel (Isa. #3) & Eleanor Lamb, given in her will), this Isabelle Cowan (Isa. #2) is most likely her daughter by a former marriage (Cowan). Isabelle Cowan's (Isa. #2) will 1836 also shows an Isabelle Cowan, Jr. (Isa. #4).

In the 1836 will (Isa. #2), listed are: Isabelle Cowan, Jr., Robert C. Ormsby; Thomas Cowan's children; John B. Cowan; Samuel C. Cowan; Thomas Cowan; Harris Cowan; Maria Rivenbark; Hugh Cowan. (Exr. Friend, John Moore, Sr.) (relationships not given in the will)

In reviewing the 1763 New Hanover County NC census, Mr. Cowan may have been Andrew Cowan as the three Cowans listed are Andrew Isabel and Magnus.

ASSUMED CORRELATION OF RELATIONSHIPS (by Douglas Couch in 1997):
Will of Isabelle Johns gives children with Cowan surname and granddaughters Isabel & Eleanor Lamb. Isabel (given as Isabella) and Eleanor are daughters of Isaac Cowan Lamb & Mary Hendry. Thus, the relationships shown are assumed that Johns s her maiden name and her Cowan children derived from a previous marriage. It was given that Thomas Lamb and a Miss Cowan were the parents of Isaac Cowan Lamb. Since his children are given in Isabelle Johns will of 1793 as her grandchildren, it seems there is no other way the relationship could have existed.
