In a tape made by George Smith, son of Harvey Smith, he stated that
Mahala was a widow and that the children listed with this marriage were
the children that she had before her marriage to Samuel Smith. Jesse Adkins gave the name Allen Adkins of Fayette County as his father on his marriage license in Cabell County, VA. Can not find any other children of Mahala marriage records.

Mahala married Allen Adkins. Allen (son of Thomas Tindel Adkins and Susannah Adkins) was born in in Fayette Co, VA; died about 1844. [Group Sheet]

   • A John Smith married a Mahala Adkins in 1847, approximately when one would have expected Samuel & Mahala to be married (if a few years late). Some have shown our Mahala as married to a John Smith or a Samuel John Smith; however, there is no evidence of this regarding our Mahala. The following image shows the 1847 marriage record for John & Mahala, about two years after Samuel & Mahala were already having children in her second marriage. This record shows that the Mahala who married John was single and not previously married when marrying John.
