    Notes:

    Name:
As long as this notice exists, I do not have certain documentation for the following and assumptions have been used to establish relationships that make some sort of sense. These children all show in the 1870 census, living with Octavie. From census and city directory information, it appears that Charles' two most recent widows, (3)Octavie and (4)Marie, shared in the care of all of Charles' children who were not yet out on their own and at different times, each of these two widows lived with Charles (b.1854) and near his siblings (which children were more established). — See explanation by each child below
       • It appears that Charles Washington Grenot died between 1866 (birth of the youngest child of those children which indications suggest are his) and the 1870 census. I don't have any census for any year that shows Charles at all.
       • dau: Marie b.1853 is probably child of Octavie as she was born just before son Charles.
       • son: Seraphin b.1855 living with Octavie is probably child of Octavie.
       • son: Octave b.1867 is adopted by Octavie. Parents unknown.
       • son: Joseph b.1859 is probably child of Marie as she married Charles in 1857.
       • dau: Stella b.1862 is probably child of Marie as she married Charles in 1857.
       • dau: Bertha b.1865 is probably child of Marie as she married Charles in 1857.
       • dau: Maria b.1866 is probably child of Marie as she married Charles in 1857.

    Died:
    • Charles does not show in the 1870 or 1880 censuses.
    • His 3rd Wife, Octavie, was listed as widow in the 1900 census of New Orleans and she is living with Charles (son born 1854) on White Street.
    • His 4th Wife, Marie, was listed as widow in Soards' 1885 Directory (of New Orleans) and in this earlier listing, Marie is also living with Charles (stepson born 1854) on St. Philip Street.

The cemetery for "this parish" is the cemetery for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort-Liberte (Fort Dauphin). That cemetery is just southeast of St. Joseph's Cathedral. His burial then is outside of the cemetery proper.

Jean married Marie Jeanne Angelique Derouville. Marie was born in 1736 in Haiti; died on 17 May 1816 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA; was buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Marie Jeanne Angelique Derouville was born in 1736 in Haiti; died on 17 May 1816 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA; was buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA.

    Notes:

In the list of "Inhabitants of Santo Domingo without land ownership and heirs of former settlers (1750-1826)", six members of the Grenot family are listed: Ann Marie, Charles Bernard, Anne, Marie-Jeanne-Sophie, Pierre-Ambroise-Isidore and Rose-Eleonore-Elisabeth (Grenot, widow Lapice de Bergondy).

All Grenot heirs listed are just listed as "heirs", except the eldest male sibling, Charles Bernard Grenot. His listing reveals what the heirship pertained to: "Cafeteria. Farm Farm, AF: Derouville, A.N. Subseries D XXV 29" According to the legend of abbreviations, Cafeteria means owner of a coffee shop; AF means Family Alliance. Farm is not listed. However, it would seem to suggest a coffee farm or plantation.

From the related list of "Settlers of Santo Domingo Former Owners (1789)", the following is found re the Derouville family (given as Deronville/Derouville): "Deronville [Derouville?], married Grenot Marie-Jeanne-Angelique 0 Candy. Originally from (La) Ronville near Wimereux (Pas-de-Calais) ?!; AF: Delamarre, Grenot, Legrand". Also listed: "Lapice, dit Bergondy [Lapice de Chateauriant?] Pierre-Michel 0 Cafeteria. /Candy. AF: Grenot", and his wife, Louise Demie Lapice, 0, heir."—Note that this Pierre Lapice (1743-1810) and the last legitimate holder of the title "de Bergondy" is the father of Pierre Michel Ambroise Lapice (known as P.M. Lapice, 1797-1884).
    —— Lists at: https://www.domingino.de/stdomin/index_colons_a_z.html

NOTE: Although the author of these lists was unclear about the surnames as La Ronville versus, Derouville (de Rouville), a look at modern maps shows that Rouville is in Normandy, while La Ronville is far to the north and not in Normandy. The history of the Lapice family says that they were descended from a noble family in Normandy...which agrees with their being allied with the Derouville family at least partly through marriage into the Grenot family.
