    Some confusion exists regarding the reinterment of Alexander's and Rachel's; which were moved from the Old Kirk churchyard in 1883 to Bowmanville Cemetery. Said to have been moved to his son Gordon Drummond Fletcher's plot, they are not there. However, there are two unmarked non-empty graves next to the grave of Alexander's great uncle, Drummond Gordon Fletcher. Neither those graves nor Alexander's or Rachel's graves are in the cemetery interment records. Please view the provided PDF file for more information (same as media under Headstones below).

    Said to have had Rachel's and Alexander's graves moved in 1883 to (their son) Gordon's plot. It is unclear if that plot was in the same non-located cemetery (Old Kirkyard, in Bowmanville). They did have a son named Drummond Gordon Fletcher.

    Notes:

    A pen picture of Alexander Fletcher was written in 1896 by his grandson J. Wesley Fletcher. Grandfather soon after marriage settled below the Whirlpool on the British side of the Niagara where Uncle John was born. He afterward about 1800 moved to Darlington where he was Major of the 2nd Durham Militia and one of the first magistrates of Durham County then a part of York. He was a small man of considerable attainments; was very bright, systematic, shrewd, active, nervous, quick tempered, a very loyal British subject and a strict Presbyterian.     A note was included by JHF: The Corwin family into which Alexander married came from N.J. but so far records of the Fletchers have not been found in that state (Alexander's marriage to Rachel Corwin).

    Notes:

    George Corwin (February 26, 1666 ? April 12, 1696) was the High Sheriff of Essex County, Massachusetts during the Salem witch trials. He signed warrants for the arrest and execution of those condemned of witchcraft. On September 16, 1692, he was ordered by the Court of Oyer and Terminer to preside over the interrogation, under torture of Giles Corey, who was pressed to death for refusing to stand trial for witchcraft. Corwin died of a heart attack, in 1696, at the age of 30, after which his burial was delayed by a Salem resident named Phillip English, who was accused during the Witch Trials, and had his property seized by Corwin. English put a lien on Corwin's corpse, and delayed its burial until he had been reimbursed for the property he lost to Corwin.

    George Corwin was the Grandson of John Winthrop, the Younger, the Governor of Connecticutt. His wife, Lydia Gedney, was the daughter of Bartholomew Gedney, one of the magistrates involved in the witch trials.
