| Horse Portrait by Doug Couch, circa 1966-67 Doug Couch & James Penland, both USAF Ground Still Photographers stationed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico, spent many hours doing OJT photography in the arroyos around Sandia Peak. On such a trip, they met two young girls at a horse riding stable who owned their own horses. After touring around the area with both riding double, just after handing off his $600 USAF camera to James, the horse Doug and companion was on bolted and galloped wildly back to the stables, upon arriving at which, he turned sideways and stopped suddenly, dumping both riders, causing an injury for which Doug is now awarded benefits by the VA. During another trip to this stable, a friend of theirs wanted her horse photographed. This is that photograph. You will notice another unattended horse walking from left to right in the background. This horse jimmied the latch and let himself out, sauntering over to visit a nearby mare, while we were shooting the horse portrait. | Infant Son of General Marion Smith & Martha Francis Plumley Smith See both birth record transcription images and notes above regarding this infant's names. Judging by the generic inscription placed on the gravestone (apparently by family later), these conflicting records made it impossible to be accurate with the name, and thus chose "INFANT"...otherwise, they would simply have used the infant's name, since clearly it had a name earlier than the death in 1900. |
