1503 Death Certificate gives Washington as birthplace. Verna Aldrich (Verna King-Couch) gave Olympia as the place of birth. (noted because one family member had it down as Illinois)

Born in Olympia, Alva was one of two of Walter's and Ella's children born in Washington. Apparently, Walter and his brother Emmett migrated to Washington to take part in the paper industry's mills in Oakville, Grays Harbor County, Washington.

1512 Death record of Willie Horton gives his and his father's surname as Harten, with mother Octavia Egnor. Carol Setliff's records report Willey H. Plumley as born to Octavia and husband Plumley; however the H. indicates he was a Horton.

If the death year for Octavia is correct at 1888, then Willie has a different mother, and is half-brother to Mary Frances. Similar may be true of Beulah ___?...unknown. Formerly listed brother Balam ___? has since been found to be Oliver Balaam "O.B." Atkins, brother of Andrew Jackson Atkins and brother-in-law to Willie through his sister, Mary Frances Horton.

1550 Documentation on 1866 birth year not given, from a OneWorldTree family tree record.

Same for IGI record showing birth as 1857, Kanawha, VA and married to Octaby Smith. HOWEVER, the official record of his marriage to Octavia (as Octaby), gives him as 24 years old in October 1882. This would mean he was born most likely in 1858...or possibly in 1857. It gives him as married in Putnam County, VA and then living in Kanawha County, WV.
Horton, William H. (I2031)

1551 Doda (Donada), the younger daughter, married Synel, Lord of Glammis. Another source names the husband Finlaec, mormaer (sub-king) of Moray. They had a son, Macbeth, born about 1005, who died on August 15, 1057, killed by Malcolm III., after Macbeth killed Duncan, Malcolm's father. This same source has Macbeth marrying about 1032, Gruoch. Macbeth was the model on whom Shakespeare based his famous character in "Macbeth." DODA, (Donada) of Scotland (Donada) of Scotland (I6689)

1552 Donald Bane, born about 1033, ascended November 13, 1093, at the death of his older brother, deposed, May 1094, restored November 12, 1094 and finally deposed October 1097. During his 2nd reign he is said to have shared the government with Edmund, son of Malcolm III and Margaret. King of Scotland, Donald Bane (I5727)

1561 Doug Couch 2008 note: Ancestors and any collateral lines beyond Jeptha Massie 1779-1853 are from online family data of Paul E. McFerrin:
http://home.att.net/~paulmcferrin/geneology/fam00590.html

Neither a Lahoma nor Lany are listed as children of Jeptha Massie and Anna Meadows in the McFerrin data. Thus the McFerrin data is unclear whether correctly connected to Lany.

Ancestors given by McFerrin data:

1-Jeptha 1779
2-Jeptha Massie 1750 VA - 1855
2-Mary Sowards b.VA
3-John Massey 1720 MD - 1781 MD
3-Sarah Strong
4-James (Massey)
4-Rachel Jayne
5-Nicholas Massey, Jr. abt 1662 - 1724
5-Mary? abt 1666 - abt 1725
6-Nicholas Massey abt 1630 - abt 1693, md. MD
6-Anne b.MD

This general lineage is reiterated in the billmassey data at

Extremely lengthy researched lineage of the Massey family (not currently connected to this line) is found at:
http://masseyfamgenealogy.tripod.com/a1.htm#g1
This line goes back to the 10th century.
MASSIE, Jeptha Jr. (I5119)

1562 Doug Couch note: No evidence has been found as of 11-11-2008 that Octavia had a husband named Sutliff or Setliff, other than family recollection of Lorine Strickland Smith, daughter of Nada Adkins and great granddaughter of Octavia through Mary Frances Horton...as told to her by her mother, Nada (that her great grandmother was full-blood Cherokee, and married five times to Smith, Horton, Plumley, Sadler and Sutliff...order of marriages not given). SUTLIFF (I2036)

1563 Doug Couch notes 2008:

In initial online records viewed, Robert Higgins was given as husband of Julian Meals, daughter of Christopher Meals and Elizabeth. While this relationship may exist at some point, more documented records show that this Julian Meals was married to Edward Higgins (given as Robert's father in the online records), with a quote from Julian's gravestone, verifying her marriage to Edward. Thus, the relationship has been unlinked from Robert and relinked to Edward. A copy of the citation is given here, as well as with Julian and Edward.

Children were: Jonathon Higgins , Thomas Higgins , Julian Higgins , *Richard Higgins
HIGGINS, Robert (I5207)

Thus, the relationship has been unlinked from Robert and relinked to Edward.

1567 Doug note 2009:

Multiple versions of lineage exist beyond this Bodegisal, including this one going back to Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus 38BC-9AD...father of Emperor Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus 10BC-55AD. This lineage was compiled around 800 by the Carolingians at the peak of their power, and undocumented, it is regarded by many modern genealogists as spurious.

Another pedigree suggests Bodegisal as son of Bodegisal, with an entirely different lineage.

No lineage is proveable for St. Arnulfo Bishop born 582. Therefore, inclusion of this lineage from St. Arnulfo II to Nero is anecdotal in purpose.
Bodegisal (I7775)

1568 Doug notes 2008:

Anna Meadows given in Mullins records as born 27 Feb 1806, unlikely spouse relationship and impossible son relationship. 1850 census shows Jeptha Massie, wife Anna and son William, with Anna's estimated birth year as 1788, a much more likely date, used here.

Anna's children are given differntly in different records. Thomas, Lahoma/Lany, William, and Jeptha are common to the various records (except one doesn't show Lahoma/Lany). Her other children's birth years, extend her child-bearing years beyond what one would expect, and children cited as by Jeptha Jr's second wife overlap those years. They are included here for reference, but many may not be her children. Similarly, other records looked at do not list a second wife. For my ancestors, I will make an effort to obtain documentation of their relationships.
MEADOWS, Anna (I5120)

1569 Doug notes 2008:
Research by the Edmund Chandler Family Association, considered many genealogies proposed or assumed, and sometimes published for Edmund. The results reported by Dick Chandler (http://www.edmundchandler.com/Documents/originate.html) states that there is no known, documented lineage for this Edmund Chandler. He has been associated with a number of known Edmund Chandlers, but without documentation, and often documents do exist which disprove or tend to disprove those associations.

Edmund apparently had two wives, and what is and isn't proven is a complex subject. The list of children given here, may or may not all be his proven children, and may have been by more than one wife.

In Edmund's will, Lydia's name is absent because she was deceased:
[Pope, p. 93]: Edmund Chandler/Chaundler, creditor of Godbert Godbertson, frm 1633; res. at D uxbury 1636-7; constable; appraiser of est. of Wm. Thomas. Will dated 3 May, prob. 4 June 1662, being old. Req. to children Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, Sarah, Ann, Mary and Ruth.

1570 Dr. Brown is second husband of Otto Richard Brown's mother. Family F24880

1571 Due to a poor source for the ancestors of Robert the Bruce, the surname Boyd/Boyt may not apply at all. When this entire lineage is revised, several generations may need to be deleted, or set as a different line of Roberts. Boyd, Sir Robert the Bruce King of Scots (I9608)

1572 Duncan I. (Maldred), King of Scotland, was slain by his cousin, Macbeth, local chief of Moray in 1041. One source puts his death on August 14, 1040. He was also the King of Strathclyde. He married about 1030, a cousin (some say the sister) of Siward, Earl of Northumbria. Wurts records that he married Algitha, daughter of Uchtred, Earl of Northumberland and his wife, Elgifu, daughter of King Ethelred II. KING OF SCOTLAND, Duncan I (I5762)

1573 Duncan was a Lieutenant of the Battallion of Loyal Americans, commanded by Colonel Robinson at the time of writing of the Bernice Entail. Fletcher, Lt. Duncan (I10638)

1574 During his lifetime, Ray spelled his surname both Adkins and Atkins, using Adkins on his father's death certificate. His father signed his draft registration Atkins. Atkins, Ray Connie (I27)

1575 E-30-26 Fletcher, John (I9436)

1576 Early census records show him as Benjamin E. and Edward, but his marriage records and death certificate show him as Dennie Smith and Dennie Edward Smith. Apparently, he finally settled on using Dennie (rather than "Bennnie")Smith, Benjamin Edward Sr. (I1996)

1577 East of Driveway, 4th Row Nash, Abraham (I14803)

1578 Easter Star Chapter 116, Hurricane, WV Schuler, Dorothy Marie (I7882)

1579 Ebenezer (Sr.) was also Chairman of the Observation Committee for Fairfield. In the Revolutionary War, that makes him the head of the Culpepper Spy ring in Fairfield, CT. The British became so angry over the success of spies in Fairfield as you may already know, they came w/Hessians across Long Island Sound in 1779 and burned Fairfield to the ground, house by house. That is why Captain Ebenezer and his younger brother, who was a private migrated together to Milton, NY, where they are buried, side by side. Later Sarah Kinney would be buried next to him. Many of the former residents of Fairfield, Ct migrated together to NY. Couch, Ebenezer Sr. (I2767)

1580 Ebenezer C. Litherland was a Lieutenant for the 15th calvary,Illinois
union army,during the civil war.

Note by Phyllis Bloom Stice - pstice@bgstice.com (2003 email)

Eben Couch Litherland was my great-grandfather. He was born 11 April 1835 per death notice published in unknown IL newspaper ("Age 64 yrs, 11 mos, 13 days") in Friendsville IL (per Muster and Descriptive Roll of Co H, 15th Illinois Cavalry). Middle name "Couch" from St. Louis, MO, death certificate of daughter Cathryn Elner Litherland Quehl. He died in St. Louis, MO, 24 March 1900 (per Probate File 25795, St Louis MO; Civil War Pension File). He is buried at Friedens Cem., St. Louis, MO, with his wife Susan Melissa Blood Litherland, and three daughters, Cathryn E. Litherland Quehl (w/spouse William); Harriet Asenath Litherland Green; and Frances E. Litherland Stead (w/spouse Thomas).

LITHERLAND, Ebenezer Couch (I3406)

1581 Ebenezer Couch was a member of the Safety Committee, his son who had several businesses in Fairfield, Conn., served as a Captain in the Revolutionary war, his son John, played the fife in his company and his son Ebenezer Jr., worked as a waiter for the company. One of their winter encampments in Connecticut is to this day undisturbed and military historians and archaeologists are trying to raise the funds to preserve the 50 plus acre site.

Captain Ebenezer Couch lost everything to include his wife, businesses, home, as a result of his service. The British wanted to teach the colonists a lesson and selected Fairfield, Connecticut as the place to demonstrate their brutality. The town was burned to the ground and innocent women and children were killed. George Washington addressed the sacrifice of the residents of Fairfield, Conn. Joel Bostwick who served under Captain Ebenezer Couch, died, and his wife, Sarah Kinney Bostwick, and Ebenezer would marry after the war. They would move the family to Saratoga, New York, and live on rented lands.
Couch, Ebenezer Sr. (I2767)

1582 Ed Kallock

The funeral will be March 8 for Ed Kallock of Eugene, who died March 1 of a stroke. He was 81.

Kallock was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Gary, Ind., to George and Estelle Ciskowski Kallock. He married Della Mae Echols on Aug. 24, 1951, in Burbank, Calif. She died Aug. 30, 1988. He married Judy Bowser on Oct. 30, 1999, in Eugene.

He graduated in 1942 from Emerson High in Gary, Ind. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 as a bandsman. He attended the University of California from 1949 to 1951. He worked as a floor covering installer in Burbank, Calif., and Eugene, retiring from Floors Unlimited in 1983. He previously lived in Burbank and San Diego.

Kallock enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, travel, gunsmithing and ballroom dancing. He belonged to Eugene Eagles Lodge 275, the Willamette Valley Sportsman's Association, the Cottage Grove-Eugene Sportsman's Club and St. Peter Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Larry Bowser of Eugene and Gary Echols of Folsom, Calif.; three step-grandchildren and four step- great-grandchildren.

Tuesday's service will be at 11 a.m. at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

1583 Edgar Laurens Perkins of Newport, Carteret County, NC Perkins, Edgar Laurens (I10432)

1584 Edgar, the Peaceful, the fourth Boy King, was born in 943 and died July 8, 975. He reigned from 959 to 975. It is recorded that Edgar, while keeping his court at Chester, was rowed down the River Dee, the oars manned by eight kings of neighboring tributary states. The story, though probably untrue, sets forth his power not only over his own immediate subjects, but over the whole island. He had a well-trained army and a strong navy and his title shows that at least he lived on good terms with his neighbors. He married (1) Aethelflaed, and (2) Elfrida (Aelfthryth) of Devon, daughter of Ordgar, Earl of Devonshire, and widow of Ethelwold. KING OF ENGLAND, Edgar 'the Peaceable' (I5778)

1585 Edith Latimer can trace her ancestry to several Barons and Lords, including Wido de Reinbudcourt (born about 1040 AD), who was a Doomsday governor under William the Conqueror. While Henry Samson's lines do not connect to any known royalty, there are many Lords, Sheriffs, Governors, and Barons.

For much more detailed information on the Samson ancestry, see the following series of articles written by Robert Leigh Ward in The American Genealogist, 52:198-209 and 56:141-143, and The Genealogist, 6:166-186. Most libraries do not subscribe to The Genealogist, but copies of the article can be obtained through any public library's interlibrary loan service.

1587 Edmund II., Ironsides, was born in 989 and succeeded his father in April 1016. In this year he fought six battles, but through treachery he was completely overthrown at Assandun, in Essex. He and Canute the Dane agreed to divide the kingdom. He was chosen king of England by the Londoners on his father's death, April, 1016, while Canute was elected at Southampton by the Witan. Edmund hastily levied an army in the west, defeated Canute twice, raised the siege of London, and again routed the Danes. Levying a fresh army, he defeated them at Otford, his last victory. At Ashingdon in Essex, after a desperate fight, he was routed. By compromise with Canute, the latter retained Mercia and Northumbria, Edmund all the south and the headship, the survivor to succeed to the whole. A few weeks later Edmund died, in 1016, and Canute became King of England without a rival. It is said that the traitorous Edric Streona perhaps murdered Edmund on November 30, 1016, shortly after peace was made. Edmund II. married Ealgyth (Algitha), widow of Sigefrith the Dane. She died in 1014. KING OF ENGLAND, Edmund II 'Ironsides' (I5772)

1588 Edmund Plantaganet, Crouchback (because of the cross he wore on his back), was born January 16, 1244 or 1245 in London, England, fourth son of King Henry III. He was the 1st Earl of Lancaster. He married (1) Aveline Fortibus, daughter of William Fortibus, but all his children were by his second wife; and shortly before October 29, 1276, he married (2) Blanche of Artois, widow of Henry, King of Navarre, and daughter of Robert, Count of Artois, son of King Louis VIII. of France. She died in Paris May 2, 1302. PLANTAGANET, Edmund 'Crouchback' Duke of Lancaster (I6085)

1589 Edmund's birth date is about a year after his father's death. Either Edmund may not be William J's son, or one of the dates is incorrect. LITHERLAND, Edmund J. (I3454)

1590 Edward de Salisbury was Sheriff of Wiltshire as early as February 1080/01. In 1086 he held in chief 33 manors in Wilts, as well as smaller estates in Surrey, Hants, Dorset, Somerset, Middlesex, Bucks, Osfordshire and Herts, being known as D. B. "Edwardus Sarisburiensis". He survived William the Conqueror. It is not known who he married. de Evreux of Salisbury, Edward High Sheriff of Wiltshire (I6208)

1591 Edward died November 16, 1093, slain with his father near Alnwick. OF SCOTLAND, Edward (I6069)

1592 Edward I., the Elder , "the Unconquerored King," was born about 870 and died about 924. He reigned 24 years from 900 to 924. He was not, like his father, a legislator or a scholar, although it is said that he founded the University of Cambridge, but he was great warrior. He gradually extended his sway over the whole island, in which project he was assisted by his sister the "Lady of Mercia" who headed her own troops and gained victories over both the Danes and Britons. Tradition assigns to Edward an even wider rule shortly before his death. In the middle of the ninth century the Picts and the Scots had been amalgamated under Kenneth MacAlpin, the King of the Scots, just as Mercia and Wessex were being welded together by the attacks of the Danes. It is said that in 925 the King of the Scots, together with other northern rulers, chose Edward "to father and lord." Probably this statement only covers some act of alliance formed by the English King with King of Scots and other lesser rulers. Nothing was more natural than that of the Scottish King, Constantine, should wish to obtain the support of Edward against his enemies; and it is natural that if Edward agreed to support him he would require some acknowledgment of the superiority of the English King. After a prosperous reign, King Edward died in Forndon, Northamptonshire in 925. He married (3) Lady Edgiva (Edgina), daughter of Earl Sigelline (Sigilline), Earl of Meapham. 1603 Egbert, is regarded as the first King of England. He reigned from 802 to 829 (839?). He was born about 775 and fled from his cousin Brethrick, taking refuse in the court of Charlemagne, where he stayed for about twelve years, serving as one of his captains. On the death of Brethrick, who was poisoned by his wife, Egbert returned to England. In 802 at Winchester he was crowned King of the West Saxons. He subdued West Wales, or Cornwall, defeated the King of Mercia at Ellandune, annexed Kent and in 829 he became overlord of all the English kings and gave the name of England to the whole realm. There are still in existence some coins struck by Egbert, though these are now extremely rare. In 835 Egbert defeated a formidable army of Danes at Hingston Down in Cornwall, when they attempted to invade England. He died in 839, and was buried at Westminster. He married Lady Readberga (Redburga). He was succeeded by his son, Ethelwulf. KING OF WESSEX, Egbert III (I6020)

1613 Elizabeth is not shown in the 1860 census with the rest of the family, and also not shown in 1880. She only appears in the 1870 census...where she appears in birth order just after William and before David. In 1870, Elizabeth is represented as born around 1854; however, her siblings in that same census are represented as being about 2 years younger than the same siblings in the earliest census where they appeared before 1870. Because of this, I have adjusted Elizabeth's estimated birth year to 1850, between William and David. In either case (1851 or 1854), she was apparently the daughter of Henry & Chlo Sadler, even though she does not show up until after Henry's marriage to Araminta White. She could easily have been living with relatives for a time. Sadler, Elizabeth M. (I18797)

1614 Elizabeth shows up in census records as Madeleine Fernandez Vannier's daughter; however, she was born some time after the death of Madeleine's husband, Jacob. Whether she was adopted or otherwise regarded as a daughter is so far unknown. One census record actually states her birth as November 1871, rather than just a crude birth year estimation. Vannier, Elizabeth (I6391)

Was grazed in the head by a bullet during the battle for the control of the Cumberland Gap in Tazewell, Tennessee. On the 1890 Veteran Census he's living in Culberson, Boyd County and census notes say, "Gunshot in head and side of head." Obituary: "Capt. J. H. Sperry, one of the most prominent pioneer citizens of the county, died at his home near Palermo, Sunday (December 4, 1910), as the result of sudden stroke of paralasys. "Captain" Sperry was a man of great principle; honest, industrious and every ready to extend a helping hand to the unfortune and needy; a good neighbor, an excellent citizen and truly may it be said, the county has sustained a great loss - the people a sincere friend. Mr. Sperry was one of the great multitude of brave men who wore the blue through the Civil war and assisted in preserving the Union. We knew him as a man who always denounced wrong and upheld and praised the right, and having closed his earthly career at the age of 78 years, we feel that his race has been run well, and that God has said "Well done thou good and faithful servant," and has called him to enter into that never perishing home of the happiness." 1625 Enoch (variously, Henoch), son of Jared, lived 365 years, from 3382 B.C to 3017 B.C. In Anunnaki lore, Enoch was known as Enki-Me (aka By Enki Me Understanding). Enoch married his kinswoman, Edna, daughter of Danel. They gave birth to two sons: Barakill and Methuselah. Enoch (I8066)

1626 Enosh (variously, Enos and Anosh), son of Sheth and Kalimath, was born in 3765 B.C. and is believed to have lived 905 years. In Anunnaki lore, Enosh was known as Enshi (aka Master of Humanity). Enosh married Neom (variously, Noam), his sister and the daughter of Sheth and Kalimath Azura. They gave birth to two sons, Cainan and Barakiel, and a daughter, Mualeleth. Enosh died about 2860 B.C. Enosh (I8076)

1627 Erin is a word which refers to the country, Ireland, apparently anglicized from Éirann. During the period when William & Matthew were born, Erin was not commonly used as a given name (although it became popular much later on, especially in the United States where so many Irish and Scottish immigrants came to live).

1629 Eskew's birth record shows his birthplace as Big Creek. As his death record gives his birthplace as Gauley Bridge, undoubtedly, this refers to Big Creek Road in Gauley Bridge, rather than the town area called Big Creek some 70 miles away. Egnor, Eskew Albert Sr. (I18571)

1632 Ethelfleda married the regent of Mercia, Ethelred, (Ealdorman of the Mercians). This marriage set the final seal upon the cooperation of the South and Midlands. He died in 911, and his widow succeeded him as ruler of Mercia. She was known as "the Lady of the Mercians." She aided his brother Edward I., the Elder, in conquering the Danelaw and its Five Boroughs. In 918, the Danish resistance in East Anglia collapsed, and all the Danish leaders submitted to Edward as their protector and lord. They were granted in return their estates and the right to live according to their Danish customs. At the same time "the Lady of the Mercians" conquered Leicester, and received even from York offers of submission. In this hour of success Ethelfleda died, and Edward was invited by the nobles of Mercia to occupy the vacant throne. OF ENGLAND, Elfrida (I5787)

1633 Ethelred II., the Unready was born in 968, a boy of ten when he became king in 978. He died April 23, 1016 in London, reigning for thirty-eight years from 979 to 1016. He was the last of the Boy Kings. The epitaph "The Unready" which is usually assigned to him is a misrepresentation of a word which properly means the Rede-less, the man without counsel. He was entirely without the qualities which befit a king. He married in 984 (1) Elfflaed (Elgifa) (Aelfgifu), daughter of Earl Thorad. KING OF ENGLAND, Ethelred II 'the Unready' (I5774)

1634 Ethelwulf(Aethelwulf), "Noble Wolf," son of Egbert, reigned from 839 to 857 in Wessex, England. During his reign the Danes miserably spoiled England, daring to winter there for the first time. In 851 Ethelwulf routed them at Okely in Surrey. By the advise of St. Swithin, Bishop of Winchester, he granted to the church the tithe of all his dominions. He died January 13, 858. He married (1) Lady Osburga (Osburh) (Osberga), daughter of Earl Oslac, the royal cup-bearer. From this first marriage they had a son. KING OF WESSEX, Ethelwulf (I5789)

1635 Eunice is also cited as Hannah Lathrop. Some believe she had both names. Lathrop, Eunice (I14231)

1636 Eunice may also have been called Elizabeth. Eunice (I9125)

1637 Even the birthplace of Henry Howe Connor himself is in doubt; the dates found on his gravestone, his death certificate, the papers of his pension application and the census records being at wide variance. These dates range from as early as 1819 to as late as 1825. A search for his birth record at Somerset House, London was reported as not feasible because of the lack of an exact year or place for search for Henry Connor's birth record...birthplace is given in his death certificate as Canterbury which is in Kent, England. - Ancestral Lines of Chester Everts Howell Connor, Henry Howe (I2534)

1638 Everett is represented in some census records as Evert Pitman. On his marriage license, he signed this way as well. Pittman, Everett Adam (I12419)
