Notes |
September 2021 Research by Doug Couch did not reveal ancestors or precise locations for Aaron J. Nash (Sr.), listed with Amelia as parents of Aaron J. Nash (Jr.) in his death record.
• The 1850 census or Royalton, Niagara County, New York, shows Aaron J. Nash (Jr.) & Margaret prior to their move to Michigan.
• History of Cass County, Michigan shows Aaron J. Nash (Jr.) & Margaret R. Nash arrived in Dowagiac, Michigan in 1854 from New York. The 1860, 1870 & 1880 censuses in Dowagiac show them as living there.
• Arriving in Washtenaw County, Michigan before 1840 (per census data), is one Aaron Nash (but arriving from where?). He is reported in 1840 as between 50-59 years of age (b.1881 or after), but in 1850 he is reported as age 66 ( b.1784 in Connecticut).
• In New York, another Arron Nash is found living in Ballston, Saratoga County, New York in the 1840 & 1850 censuses. He is reported in 1840 as between 60-69 years of age (b.1771 or after), but in 1850 he is reported as age 82 ( b.1768 in Connecticut), living daughter Mary Nash.
Without further data, it is not possible to determine exact information about Aaron J. Nash (Sr.). Of interesting note however is the fact that Royalton, NY is along the route going due west from Ballston, NY to Dowagiac, MI. View Route Map
My guess is that Aaron (Jr.) was born in Ballston, NY, moved to Royalton, NY and had the first four of his children there, then moved to Dowagiac, Michigan (likely after the death of his father), where he had two more children. His father, Aaron J. Nash (Sr.), born in Connecticut, only migrated to New York..
