 | THE HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD, Fairfield County, Connecticut, Vol. I From the settlement of the town in 1639 to 1818
by Mrs. Elizabeth Hubbell Shenck - New York, 1889
www.archive.org Important Vol. I vs. Vol. II Contradiction Correction Notes:
Elizabeth's Volume I contained many inaccuracies in the Andrews lineages from Francis Andrews through John Andrews III. However, although she tried to correct this in Volume II, failed to sort these people out, ending up with five Johns instead of her original three. This type of work is very difficult, drawing from many sources with so many people naming their children exactly the same. I appreciate the huge amount of time and effort she put into this. I'm sure she would have wanted it to be corrected where needed. Therefore, to the extent possible with the information she has given (there being no other documentation of this family's lineage), I have represented whatever dates, marriages and children of John Andrews I through John Andrews IV as were available to identify. There are only four Johns in succession; however, Elizabeth's Volume I shows three and her Volume II shows five...both being incorrect according to the contradictions in her own information. |
