According to military service records, a Robert Couch enlisted on Aug. 11, 1864 for a term of
One year with the U.S. Navy. He was living in Brooklyn, working as a tin smith at the time of his
enlistment. He was described as being 5 feet, 10 and a half inches tall, and having grey eyes, brown hair, and a fair complexion. He served aboard the U.S.S. Seminole (W.G. Squad) as a coal heaver, and was discharged May 8, 1865. (from records of National Archives)
