King William's response to the mission of Breadalbane
Regarding Breadalbane's mission to represent the king to the Highlander Clans
Excerpt from Scotlands Magazine 1872 article:
"It was at Auchallader House that a meeting of Highland chiefs was held in July, 1691, with Breadalbane representing King William. At this gathering the Treaty of Auchallader was signed, whereby the chiefs agreed to take the oath of allegiance to the King. The exception was Macdonald of Glencoe, whose delay in signing led to the tragic events at Glencoe in the following February." Note: Refers to the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692, when government troops killed 38 unarmed members of Clan MacDonald.
